OK
I have noticed some issues with both the Ubuntu and Debian installers for nfluxos
So, I am posting a thread in each to demonstrate how it can be done in various ways for various media, incl CD, USB, and Hard Drive.
1) Installation to CD should be simple; if using Linux I suggest either k3b or Brasero
make sure to choose "burn image to cd",
if in windows there is Nero, ImgBurn freeware and others.
2) Installation to USB
its best to use a debian/ubuntu or similar linux livecd to do this.
You can manually copy the iso contents to usb and manually install syslinux
or use unetbootin to install to usb
either way you will have to manually setup persistency for usb frugal install.
manually:
I included a app named Isomaster in every nflux version.
simply right-click the debian iso, choose "open with isomaster"
then go down to bottom pane, hold down Ctrl keyboard key and left-click
all the folders, files, etc
then hit the extract button with mouse pointer
its best to extract it to a hard drive partition rather than to usb as it'll take longer to extract to usb
after its done extracting, simply copy and paste all the extracted stuff into the usb
do this with pcmanfm as root, open 2 pcmanfm windows, one on mounted usb and the other wherever the iso was extracted to.
then copy and paste into usb
when it's done copying, open a terminal and find out usb device name to install syslinux to usb
use
to list all your hard drives and partitions
you can also use
to reveal the usb device
example say it's /dev/sdf1
so, now you got syslinux installed and nfluxos debian on usb
now you need to make a Persistent file or partition to be able to save settings etc between reboots/shutdowns.
Please see here
live.debian.net/manual/en/html/persistence.html
Big note is that if you make a persistent file, it can only be on a seperate usb or hard drive partition
not on the same partition as the debian media is on.
Ubuntu's casper-rw can be on same partition.
