OK
I have noticed some issues with both the Ubuntu and Debian installers for nfluxos
So, I am posting a thread in each to demonstrate how it can be done in various ways for various media, incl CD, USB, and Hard Drive.
1) Installation to CD should be simple; if using Linux I suggest either k3b or Brasero
make sure to choose "burn image to cd",
if in windows there is Nero, ImgBurn freeware and others.
2) Installation to USB (frugal, persistent)
You can use Unetbootin, Ubuntu's own USB-Creator, or many other apps for this.
However; if you want persistent USB, you must either use Ubuntu's USB-Creator, or
use one of the others and then manually create the save file, called "casper-rw"
A casper-rw can be a "file" of certain size in MB, or it can be a seperate partition on usb or hard drive that is formatted ext3
Please see here
help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD/Persistence
wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent
The Ubuntu casper-rw file can be on same partition as the ubuntu media, unlike the debian version.
However; I have seen where the seperate casper-rw "partition" option does not work
whereas the casper-rw file does work.
3) Installation to hard drive:
Use Ubuntu's Ubiquity Installer, a icon is usually on the user's Desktop
named InstallRelease
Just double-click icon and install
or start Ubiquity thru terminal with
Code:
sudo ubiquity
also please read the Ubuntu download page about install to cd, usb, and hard drive incl using Wubi
