I've downloaded a jpg file I want to use for wallpaper. I can change the wallpaper to the jpg where it's located on my USB stick, but it reverts back to the old wallpaper when starting up.
Tried to copy the file to where the other wallpaper is, but was refused permission. Can't I copy other files to use as wallpaper?

OK first, are you talking about an installed system or booting from cd/usb?
assuming it's a installed system you need to copy any jpg/png wallpaper to /usr/share/wallpapers
sudo cp -r /path/to/wallpaper /usr/share/wallpapers
or just use root file manager and copy/paste it to /usr/share/wallpaper then choose it from fluxbox menu under configuration/wallpapers

As user Root, I was able to copy the file from my USB stick to the usr/share/wallpapers directory. I was then able to assign the wallpaper by right-clicking on the desktop configure/wallpapers.
When I logged on as the other user (my daughter's account) and select the wallpaper to assign it, I get the following xmessage: "fbsetbg /usr/share/wallpapers//wallpaper-13495.jpg isn't an existing wallpaper or a valid option". The forward slashes are just as in the message. Is there something about the title that creates a problem?

I changed the permissions for the usr/share/wallpapers file so other users have all the permissions the root user has. Renamed the file, in case that was the issue, and tried to select it again as the wallpaper, then got the same error.

you need to right-click the wallpaper you want after putting it in /usr/share/wallpapers choose "properties" and the "permissions" make sure the "read" parts are checked for everyone
also make sure the wallpaper's name doesn't have spaces like my wallpaper.jpg should be mywallpaper.jpg
also, there's 2 slashes there, should be one /usr/share/wallpapers//wallpaper-13495.jpg

Right clicking on the file worked. Had to go to the Root user to change permissions, but after that it loaded. I had tried changing permissions for the folders, but didn't think to change permissions on the actual file.
Thanks again.
Am I supposed to mark my questions as "resolved" or something after they're answered? How do I do that?
