My laptop doesn't have an internal wireless antenna. I have an old D-link, and also a LinkSys, that I could use. The software doesn't look like it supports Linux. Is it possible to use an exterior antenna on Linux without the supporting software? Can it just be manually configured somehow?
If not, what's the best approach?

I just checked with the Belkin Site (I have a Wireless N Adapter) and it looks like there's a "Bulldog" software that is compatible with Linux. Will give it a try and let you know what happens.

I found a way to set up my wireless using a "wrapper". As part of the method, it says to check to see if I have the necessary tools by using the command: "sudo apt-get install build-essential".
When I do this, it seems to work then asks if I want to proceed. After hitting 'Yes', I get a laundry list of "Failed to Fetch http: " lines.
Makes perfect sense because I'm not on the internet with this laptop yet. How can I get these 'build-essential' components onto my laptop through a second computer?
